Flying Lotus was first painted in the ’80s when I was living in Glastonbury. It is one of several mandalas that I painted at that time which explore viewing a lotus from a horizontal perspective. It means that the mandala is not strictly speaking centred from a geometrical perspective. Nevertheless, it conveys the expansive quality and sense of unfolding consciousness associated with the lotus and all that it traditionally represents. In addition, the use of colour and the rainbow or reversed rainbow add beauty and harmony to the image.
