I have painted many variations of this design exploring colors in the blue, lilac, and pink hues. This is the only variation that shifts away from that part of the spectrum into shades of orange. This mandala was painted later than the other variations of the same design and was an exploration of how the color affected the energy of the mandala. It introduces a warmer and more energizing quality. I have considered exploring other colors but have not yet done so.
I have painted many variations of this mandala since I first started painting mandalas in the 70s. I have always felt a deep affinity for the lotus and the sense of unfoldment and love that are associated with it. The name Premananda can be roughly translated to mean Love Bliss or Love Joy. The radiating lines and movement through the spectrum and tones of color give a sense of expansiveness associated with the energy that the mandala seeks to express and represent.
